So, we’re at the start of a brand new year! January is a somewhat unique month in terms of our national psyche – simultaneously a time of reflection, and a time of anticipation about what’s to come. Personally here at North Valley Composites, we’re looking forward to some fascinating garden trends on the way in 2023, especially since they have the potential to inspire people to use their https://www.northvalleycomposites.co.uk/ in new and creative ways. Here are some of our favourites!
Outdoor living spaces
One of the few benefits of the successive lockdowns we’ve endured over the past few years was that it encouraged so many of us across the UK to treat our gardens more as extensions of our living spaces. That’s a trend that, happily, doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, and homeowners are now filling their gardens with comfortable, weather-resistant furniture and creature comforts. Examples include modular seating, luxurious sofa sets and rugs, as well as more ambitious pieces like pergolas, fire pits, and even outdoor kitchens!
Creating zones
Dividing gardens into zones can help the space feel a lot bigger, enabling the entire family to enjoy it how they individually want to most. You might want to designate one area for dining, for example, as well as one for relaxing with a good book, or a space where your children can play.
You could also have a defined space for outdoor working (given that working from home is a growing trend worldwide), or even reserve an area for a cheeky nap or two in the sunshine. It’s all about how you and your family prefer to use the space!
Sanctuary gardens
This is a big one for 2023. The rediscovery of our gardens in the past few years means they’re increasingly used as leisure spaces in a variety of new ways. For example, the mental health benefits of gardening have are very well documented, and with so many people having discovered it as a new hobby over the past few years, it’s no wonder that we’re now seeing a rise in ‘sanctuary gardens’.
Just as it sounds, this trend is all about making natural outdoor spaces an oasis of peace, a place to escape all life’s daily worries. Lots of sanctuary gardens are defined by an abundance of bright and cheerful colours, plants that delight the sense of smell and touch, as well as options that have additional health benefits, like lavender. In terms of layout, sanctuary gardens utilise hidden nooks, calming water features, and you can even choose to incorporate secluded meditation areas.
Mykonos
This one is a bit more unusual. The Mykonos trend takes its name from the Greek island, and indeed, it’s defined by homages to Greece, and principles of highlighting romantic beauty. Mykonos gardens often incorporate stone statues, stone garden walls and archways. A favourite technique is nestling the statue within planting to soften its look with greenery, giving the impression that it’s just being discovered.
Others prefer to use pops of colour in a predominantly whitewashed environment, which also evokes the classic idea of Ancient Greece. (Even though not quite historically accurate!) If it’s something you like the idea of for your own garden, some experts recommend limiting the number of different colours and plant types used, to better preserve that impression of a calm, peaceful space.
Ultimately though, there are no hard and fast rules with these trends, and you don’t have to follow each of them to the letter. You can mix and match your favourite elements of each. After all, it’s your garden, which means the most important thing is about whatever makes you feel calm and happy!
And if you’re thinking about trying something different this year, such as a shift away from traditional timber fencing in favour of some stylish, modern and robust composite fencing panels, you’re in exactly the right place.
Our composite fencing is the low-maintenance option that can keep your space looking at its very best for a decade or more. What’s more, we provide composite fencing in a variety of different colours like Golden Oak, Driftwood, and Black Ash. And if you need any help narrowing down your options, that’s what we’re here for. If you’ve got any questions or need any advice, don’t hesitate to give us a call on 01282 677300 to talk to a friendly member of our team, and we’ll be only too happy to see how we can help.
