Now of course, one of the main benefits of swapping out your timber fencing for composite is the fact that it requires little to no maintenance. Even so, there are still a couple of things you can do throughout the year to ensure your composite fence panels remain in their very best condition all year round.
Autumn – winter maintenance tasks
Our composite products come with a 10 year warranty, and they’re by far the smart choice if you’re looking for a more durable alternative to timber fencing. Just like almost everything else in your garden though, they tend to endure the worst of the year’s weather in the depths of winter, so you can never be too safe when it comes to protecting your composite features once the cold weather kicks in.
Clear away debris – although this does make for a nice autumnal setting, fallen leaves aren’t the most attractive feature to have stuck to your fence panels. Crucially, they can cause issues like moisture build-up and mould if they fill the cracks between the panels. A soft brush will usually be enough to remove any debris from between your fence panels.
Clear away ice – we’d recommend clearing ice from your fence panels for the same reasons we pointed out above when talking about fallen leaves (moisture build-up). A soft brush will probably be suitable for clearing away any snowfall. However, any icy spots on your fence panels will require something a little bit stronger like a plastic shovel to make them
Spring – Summer maintenance tasks
Clean with water – any dried-on dirt and muck can usually be cleaned off using that time-honoured combination of a soft brush or scouring pad and some soapy water. Simply wet your fencing panels and rub this off and leave it to dry naturally. Don’t apply too much pressure with a scouring pad though as you might scratch the finish which isn’t easily fixed!
A fine sanding – if you notice any scratches or rough patches on your fence, you may want to lightly sand these following the wood grain, using very fine sandpaper. However, this needs to be done lightly and carefully as too much pressure can spoil the finish.
As we touched on above, our composite fencing panels are designed to be long lasting, so these aren’t necessarily essential tips – but you might find them useful for keeping your composite fencing looking at its very best throughout every season.
While all of the above will make ensure your composite fence panels remain strong and aesthetically pleasing throughout the year, buying quality composite fencing from a dependable provider is a great way of ensuring your panels will last for years to come.
Here at North Valley Forge, we have a wide choice of composite fence boards, fence panels and accessories, and even composite gate boards in many different styles and colours – so whatever you’ve got in mind for your outdoor space, you can be sure you’ll find it right here. And of course, if you need any advice on which composite fencing could best suit your property, simply give us a call on 01282 677300 to talk to a friendly member of our team who will be more than happy to help.
