Can composite fence panels be cut to size?
This is one of the most common questions we get here at North Valley Composites, and the short answer is yes, our composite fencing panels can be cut down to size if needs be.
The material is exceptionally easy to cut, and requires no more than a regular saw blade (obviously the more accurate the equipment, the better!). So, if you’ve got the equipment and the confidence in your own DIY ability, you can probably give it a go yourself! However, if you’re less than 100% confident, then you might find that it’s better to get some professional help.
So, if you’re feeling up to the task of cutting your composite fence panels yourself, here’s some advice.
How to cut composite fence panels
Before attempting any sort of DIY work, we’d always strongly advise taking the necessary precautions to help reduce the risk of injury. Personal Protective Equipment like safety goggles and gloves are always a good option for protecting your hands and eyes from splinters.
Our composite fencing panels can be cut using any standard woodcutting tools, but we recommend using a fine-toothed blade if you want to achieve the cleanest cut. Alternatively, an electric table saw is the ideal choice if you want to achieve an accurate cut – so it might be something to consider if you have one!
How to cut your composite fencing panels:
Start by measuring the length of the part to be installed with a tape measure, keeping in mind that you need to allow for space for an expansion gap, as composite fencing will expand and contract in in extreme heat and cold.
Mark the cutting line on the fence panel where you plan to make the cut.
Slice away! As we mentioned above, all our composite fencing is easily cut using handheld wood saws.
Should I hire a professional to cut my fence panels?
Our composite fence panels are part of a simple self-install system, designed specifically to ensure that can be installed by anyone. If you’re able to put aside a decent amount of time to complete the task, you can generally expect to have a fully built fence panel completed within the space of a few hours. However, once our panels have been cut, it can obviously affect that timespan a bit, as the structure of the panel has been altered.
When it comes right down to it, the decision on how to cut your composite fencing is completely up to you. If you’ve got the knowledge, ability and confidence to cut your composite fencing panels yourself, then by all means have at it! However, if you’re not completely confident, or you don’t think you have the right tools or knowledge required to complete the job, then you’re probably best off hiring a professional.
If you’re thinking about hiring a professional, we’d recommend contacting a landscaper, carpenter, or professional builder to help you, as all of these trades will have some degree of experience when it comes to cutting and shaping panels. You can count on them to know what to do, and how long the work will take.
And of course, if you have any questions regarding any of our composite fencing panels themselves, or you’re looking for a bit more detailed advice on cutting them down to size, don’t hesitate to give us a call on 01282 677300 to talk to a friendly member of our team. We’re always happy to help!
